Nicola is the author of six novels, including the recent Dead Flowers and her prize-winning debut The Killing Jar.

She grew up in Nottingham and spent a lot of time living in Aspley, Broxtowe, Bilborough and Top Valley. She’s also lived in London, Paris and Chicago, but moved back to Nottingham in 2002 after over a decade away.

With an MA in Writing from Nottingham Trent University and another in Crime Fiction from University of East Anglia, we can be proud she now regards Mapperley as home.

Anyone interested in creative writing should take a look at her online support and regular appearancesvia The Write Channel on YouTube. Nicola’s latest novel is also out as an audio book.

Set in Nottinghamshire, Dead Flowers is the story of a DNA analyst Dr Sian Love.

Dr Love doesn’t trust the police. She used to be one of them. Hardened by ten years on the murder squad, she has seen it all. So when she finds human remains in the basement of her new home, she knows the drill. Except this time it’s different. This time, it’s personal….

Nicola tells Mapperley People

I’ve lived in Mapperley for a year and a half. We moved here during the first lock-down so we’ve been here for the rough and the smooth. We absolutely love the area.

There are great independent places where we can be sociable, or where I can sit and write quietly. We love our local pub the Duke of Cambridge, as well as the Espresso Gallery, which I think does the best coffee in Nottingham. We enjoy nipping to Tipsy T for breakfast and for the occasional evening cocktail. We love curry and have been very impressed by Passage to India. The new fusion place on the high street isn’t cheap, but the food and cocktails are fantastic.

We also have so many wonderful parks to walk in with the dogs. I prefer Coppice Park to Woodthorpe Park, just because it’s quieter. I also love Gedling Country Park and Digby Park for the views. I would tell anyone to move to Mapperley in a heartbeat. One of the best moves we’ve made!
