Memoirs Of A Former Police Officer

First Hand Account Of Front-Line Policing In Nottingham.

‘The Sharp End’ is a new book that details the career of former Nottinghamshire police officer Tom Andrews. Tom lives in Woodthorpe and his memoirs of an action packed career that included three murder arrests.

Is there another ‘bobby on the beat’ in Britain who’s arrested not one, but three, murderers?

Tom faced potential dangers on a daily basis as a member of the city’s pioneering knife crime unit.

He also foiled a break-in to the tour bus of a visiting celebrity.

The Sharp End is packed with extraordinary and sometimes terrifying events he faced as a member of the ‘thin blue line’ protecting Nottingham.

There’s plenty of the black humour that front line officers need to survive this daily trauma. There are also some forthright opinions on the politics which get between the police and the service they want to provide.

Tom Andrews served with Nottinghamshire Police for thirteen years. He left in 2020 and now trains the next generation of police officer, as a lecturer at Derby University.

It was an action-packed career – from high speed pursuits involving the police helicopter and police dogs to saving celebrities at music festivals; from arresting some brutal murderers to rolling around with suspected drug dealers in a field of dog poo; from nationally pioneering multi-agency problem-solving operations, to pursuits of mobility scooters.

Tom also used old legislation to tackle the modern problem of synthetic drugs.

The Greatest Policeman – Athelstan Popkess

Tom Andrews’ first book was ‘The Greatest Policeman’, the extraordinary story of former Nottingham chief constable Athelstan Popkess.

Tom also researches the history of Nottinghamshire Police.

His new book offers a unique insight into a side of the city that not many get to experience. His is an almost unique account of modern front-line policing in the city of Nottingham, only able to be published now he has left the police.

Both books are available via Amazon.
