A Heart-Warming Story

In November 2022, we were contacted by a local lady whose shopping had been stolen on a bus, as she was returning to her home in Mapperley. The local response was heart-warming.

Here’s a reminder what she told us: –

I took the number 25 bus from Carlton to home. The bus was very crowded, so I kept my shopping bags on the luggage area. To my shock, when I got to my stop and went to my bags, they had disappeared 😭.

I was so shaken and shocked that I cried all the way back home. I lost my job last week and then this. It’s absolutely disgusting.  I want to tell the person who stole my shopping …. keep it as a Christmas gift but remember KARMA comes back in full circle ⭕️🙏🏻

If you travel on the buses, please keep hold of your shopping bags. Don’t know where the world is heading. Don’t know where humanity has gone.

Sorry about the long post.

Understandably, the lady concerned wanted to remain anonymous. She did however speak to us and said that the shopping included food and gifts for her family, to the value of £150.

The Mapperley People community were (as they always are) quick to offer sympathy and support. Many wanted to help replace what she had lost.

In order to respect the lady’s wishes about anonymity, we offered to be the point of collection for cash donations and by the following day we had raised the £150.

Great news!

When we informed her that we wanted to replace what she had lost, we were humbled by her gratitude. She was very grateful but would NOT accept the money, as she felt others are more in need than her.

Here’s her reply:

Thank you so much🙏🏻

I don’t want to be abrupt or rude. The concern and good wishes by so many people have already cheered me up. Yes, financially it will be challenging but I would love it if it’s given to a charity for people who are more needy.  I am so grateful for the help offered though. I am blessed to be surrounded by good people.

Thank you 🙏🏻

The lady told us that the charities she supports are those that are mental health or animal related.

After consulting with the people who had donated, rather than have the money refunded, they agreed that the money should go to charity.

Taking on board the wishes of the lady concerned and other suggestions, we have donated the money to three deserving causes, The Arnold Food Bank, Stonebridge City Farm, and the Mind Charity shop in Sherwood.

Well done Mapperley People.

The managers send their thanks to Mapperley People on receipt of their £50 donations.
