Mapperley’s Masterchef

Chef Laurence Henry grew up in Mapperley and his family still live here.

In December 2018 he was crowned champion of BBC’s MasterChef – The Professionals.

In April 2019 he very kindly cooked a gourmet three-course lunch for patients and guests at the Nottinghamshire Hospice on Woodborough Road.

The 26-year old chef had wowed the judges and food critics on national TV with his culinary masterpieces.

Laurence is one of the youngest ever MasterChef winners and is currently Sous Chef at Nottingham’s two Michelin starred Restaurant Sat Bains.

Guests at the event ate their meals alongside patients in the hospice dining room which seats 50 people and in its day was the setting for lavish dinner parties put on by the Player family who owned the building.

On the Masterchef programme Laurence was filmed at the St Anns Allotments where he grows produce.

His career may take him all over the world, but wouldn’t it be great if he set up a restaurant back home in Mapperley?
